Fire Safe Council Hosts Free Green Waste Event on Oct. 8

May contain: person, human, outdoors, clothing, and apparel

Green Valley Fire Safe Council will hold another Free Green Waste Day for residents in Green Valley and along Rockville Road. The next event is set for Saturday, October 8, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Download the event flyer here.

“The purpose of the Free Green Waste Days is to encourage residents to carefully remove dry, dead or dying vegetation, remove ladder fuels, and thin dense vegetation to create defensible space and reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfire,” organizers said. “In addition, defensible space gives firefighters a fighting chance to safely protect your property when threatened by wildfire and helps reduce the risk of bodily harm to them while they do so.”

Registration is required to participate.

To register, go to www.eventbrite.com/cc/free-green-waste-events-for-wildfire-preparedness-1019699. The location for the event will be provided to those who register.

Republic Services and Potrero Hills Landfill are sponsoring the event, and Fire Safe Council members and other community partners are volunteering their time.

Residents are encouraged to take steps now to prepare their homes for wildfire through home hardening and defensible space activities. To learn more visit https://gvfsc.org.
